News Sources: Home

The Columbia University Libraries provide access to thousands of news sources, current and historical, from all over the world. This guide offers an overview of how to search and browse for newspapers, magazines, and other media sources.

Most of the resources listed here are available only to current Columbia students, faculty, and staff. Those labeled as unlocked Unlocked icon are open access and freely available. Columbia alumni should see the Library Resources for Alumni page.

All-Access Subscriptions

Current Columbia students, faculty, and staff can access free digital subscriptions to the following publications:

  • The Atlantic
No account required. Log in with your Columbia UNI for full access to TheAtlantic.com. See The Atlantic FAQ for more information, including instructions for the mobile app.

  • Financial Times
Register with your Columbia email for a personal digital subscription and app access.

  • The New York Times
Register with any email address for a personal digital subscription and app access. This academic subscription does not include premium features (The Athletic, Cooking, Games, or Wirecutter). See the NYT FAQ for more information.

  • The Wall Street Journal

With these digital subscriptions, read the news from the publication’s own website and app (like you had purchased a subscription, but provided by the Libraries!).

Explore the other tabs of this guide to find other publications and databases, along with tips for searching the library catalog, CLIO. For access to The Economist, Foreign Policy, The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, STAT+, and other magazines and sites, see the Popular Magazines section. For U.S. and international newspapers, see the Newspapers section.
