British History: Biography

The first point of reference for anyone interested in the lives of the peoples of the British Isles and their connections overseas, from the 4th century B.C. to the year 2002. The Oxford DNB aims to provide full, accurate, concise, and readable articles on noteworthy people in all walks of life. No living person is included: the DNB's articles are confined to people who died in or before 2002.

The Dictionary of Irish Biography, a collaborative project between Cambridge University Press and the Royal Irish Academy, is a comprehensive and authoritative biographical dictionary for Ireland. It contains over 9,000 signed biographical articles describing the careers of individuals in all fields of endeavour, including politics, law, religion, literature, journalism, architecture, painting, music, the stage, science, medicine, engineering, entertainment and sport.

WBIS Online is the most comprehensive biographical database available, providing short biographical information on over 6 Million people from the 8th century B.C. to the present. For many of the modules, including British Biographical Archive, records include a "View Digitized Article(s) from Archive" link that allows you to access digitized facsimile articles from biographical reference works.
