Getting started with Bloomberg

Bloomberg Remote access /Bloomberg Terminals Location

Bloomberg Terminals are not available remotely.

All Bloomberg terminals are available for on-campus, in-person use during the normal operation hours: Full Schedule ». The terminals are available at the following locations

  • Manhattanville: Five terminals in room 601 Kravis Hall & Five terminals in room 626 Geffen Hall. Restricted to CBS students
  • Business Library @Manhattanville: One terminal in Business Library, 360 Geffen Hall 
  • Business Library @Uris Hall: Six terminals in Business Library at Uris Hall -130 Uris Hall.
  • Lehman Library:  Two terminals in Lehman Social Science Library - 300 International Affairs
  • Journalism School:  One terminal in the lobby of Pulitzer Hall. Restricted to Journalism students
  • Center of Global Energy:  Two terminals in Center of Global Energy – Social Work building. Restricted to Global Energy students.
  • Arthur W Diamond Law Library:  One terminal in Arthur W Diamond Law Library at 435 W 116th St.  visit: https://guides.law.columbia.edu/services to access the law library.

 

Introduction

The Bloomberg Professional Service (also known as the Bloomberg Terminal) is a research tool for financial professionals as well as business academics who require in depth and timely access to current business and company news, and financial and economic data.

Bloomberg L.P. provides financial software tools and enterprise applications such as analytics and equity trading platform, data services, and news to financial companies and organizations through the Bloomberg Terminal (via its Bloomberg Professional Service), its core revenue-generating product.[9] Bloomberg L.P. also includes a wire service (Bloomberg News), a global television network (Bloomberg Television), websites, radio stations (Bloomberg Radio), subscription-only newsletters, and two magazines: Bloomberg Businessweek and Bloomberg Markets.

How to Create Bloomberg Account

You may create your own login by clicking on  "Create New Login" from the login page.

Creating Bloomberg account  :  a power point

  • Instructions to create a new Bloomberg account 
  • Go to the Bloomberg terminal and hit ‘Enter or go key to begin.’
  • Click on ‘Create a New Login.’
  • You will be on  'Welcome to the Bloomberg Terminal' screen. 
  • Select 'myself 'from who are you creating this log in for? 
  • Select 'NO' ( if you do NOT have any Bloomberg account)  from Have you ever been a Bloomberg use?
  • Fill out the form:  First Name and Last Name.
  • Bloomberg will immediately assign  you a Login Name.
  • Add your contact information - You can add the same phone number for both; company phone and mobile phone.
  • Add your Columbia University email address.
  • Click 'NEXT' from the bottom right corner.
  • Select your option for verification code and click  'Next'; from the bottom right corner.
  • You will immediately receive a verification code from Bloomberg. 
  • Enter the verification code to the next screen and set up your password.
  • There are some other options to set up but they are optional.
  • Now  you will be able to log in with your Bloomberg ID and password.
