New York City Data Resources: Home

Home and basic resources

This guide provides an annotated list of particularly valuable data and statistics for New York City.  Most resources here are publicly available websites; in those few cases where we refer to licensed resources, access instructions are provided.

The effort here is to identify basic, widely used resources with broad utility.  This guide is in no way comprehensive, and only scratches the surface of what is available to you.  You are strongly encouraged to reach out directly to Research Data Services for assistance with finding data for your research.

A few resources merit mentioning at the outset:

First, NYC OpenData is the repository and clearinghouse for New York City and has well over 3000 datasets from over 100 city agencies.  This is an excellent place to start looking if you don't know where to get started or what is available.

Similarly, DATA.NY.GOV is the data repository for New York State agencies and is another essential resource.

Infoshare is a New York City specific database created and maintained by faculty at CUNY.  Infoshare brings together a variety of demographic, socio-economic, and health related resources from federal, state and city agencies. Data tables can be generated at a wide range of geographic levels, including NYC-specific geographies including community districts, police precincts and neighborhoods.
