Art History S3010 - Evaluating the Evidence of Authenticity: Newspapers

Historical Newspapers

Through Columbia Libraries, you have access to many newspaper databases.

This link goes directly to a search for historical newspaper databases.

Remember to try name variations when searching. For example, include or exclude a middle initial.

You can combine a phrase search (using quotation marks) and an OR boolean search to do this, as shown in the screen shot from ProQuest Historical Newspapers below.

ProQuest Historical newspapers advanced search screen showing combined phrase search and OR search, "J.P. Morgan" OR "John Pierpont Morgan"

For more search tips, see the Journal Articles tab of this guide.

Non-CUL Newspaper Resources

In addition to the many newspaper databases in CLIO, such as ProQuest Historical Newspapers and the ones linked above, you may find more local newspaper collections as well. Wikipedia also has a helpful list of online newspaper archives, sorted geographically.
