History of the Early Printed Hebrew Book: Early Hebrew Printing Houses by Region

This is a guide to the History of the Early Printed Hebrew Book. It was copied with permission from the guide at the University of Pennsylvania, created by Bruce E. Nielsen, and updated for Columbia University by Michelle Chesner

Early Hebrew Printing Houses by Region

The advent and persistence of Hebrew printing establishments in specific geographical areas and towns/cities has been extensively studied. The gazetteers by Adler, Freimann and Rosenfeld, placed at the beginning of this section of the research guide set the stage and demonstrate the spread of Hebrew printing from the Iberian peninsula to the far reaches of eastern Europe, throughout the Mediterranean basin, and all points between.
