The library has relatively big collections of Chinese electronic resources in addition to print collections. Most of the electronic resources listed in this guide are subscribed web-based commercial databases. Also included are several online resources, such as Ling Long 玲瓏 Women's Magazine and Chinese Paper Gods 中國紙馬, the results of digitization projects of the library.
In general, the minimum system requirements for using e-resources are Microsoft Windows 2000 or more advanced operating system and a recent version of commonly used browser. Most e-resources require the use from a computer on Columbia University IP range or a proxy connection, so it is important to access the databases from the links found in Clio, or updated links listed in webpages of Columbia libraries.
If login is required on the opened database interface, unless clearly informed of specific login information on the associated library page, please always ignore the login cell and look for IP login (normally worded as IP登录 or 机构登陆) and click on IP登录 or its like on the page and simply click on it, you shall be able to connect and use the database. If off-campus, there is an extra step of authentication using your UNI and password.
It is helpful to participate in the Chinese studies workshops organized at Starr East Asian Library. If you have any questions, suggestions for improvement, recommendations for acquisition, please feel free to contact the Chinese Studies librarian.
You may also wish to consult, among others, the Services FAQ and attend library workshops centrally organized to learn basic software and methods and essentials applicable and detailed guides for databases and services.
Descriptions for each e-resource may be checked for further information.
