Southern Primary and General Election Data, 1920–1972   available through ICPSR This link opens in a new window–  Data at the state level on candidates contesting southern primary elections for senator and governor from 1920-1972. Included are the names and party identifications of all candidates receiving votes in selected regular and runoff primary elections, 1920-1972, as well as the total votes received by each candidate and the candidate's percentage of the total vote.
